The Tourism Groups and Historic Churches Trusts of Herefordshire and Shropshire have joined with the Dioceses of Hereford, Lichfield and Worcester to introduce a regional Festival of Churches weekend, the first of which will be in September 3013. All churches are encouraged to open their doors and to stage an event, large or small, of whatever nature a parish chooses. The success of the scheme will depend on wide participation but those churches that join in will benefit from the broad publicity and awareness which the Festival will undoubtedly produce. Furthermore, because of the publicity it is anticipated that events will attract a far wider attendance from outside a parish’s normal catchment area. This should be further enhanced by the presence of members of the public visiting for Heritage Open Days and those taking part in the Annual Ride & Stride, which is run by the Historic Churches Trusts.
